Trimble and its local distributor for South Africa, SITECH, will demonstrate the Trimble Connected Site portfolio for heavy civil contractors at bauma Africa 2013

The Trimble Connected Site portfolio of solutions connects assets, information, people, machines and sites to meet the workflow needs of different stakeholders within the contractor’s organisation.

Trimble Connected Site

The demand for greater efficiency, shorter completion times and higher quality is pressuring heavy civil contractors to adopt new technologies to remain competitive. To be successful, contractors need the ability to manage and quickly share accurate data between the office and field, manage assets and track project costs and progress, all in real-time.

Trimble will demonstrate how its Connected Site solutions leverage real-time wireless data flow between the office and job site to transform the way design engineers, contractors and job site crews tackle their grading and excavation jobs.

These solutions provide a high-level of workflow integration from the design phase through to the finished project. Contractors can achieve faster project completion, while reducing costs, improve safety and reduce environmental impact.

The Connected Controller

Demonstration of real-time, two-way data flow between the office and field handheld mobile devices using GPS or total station positioning systems used for staking, grade checking, site supervision, or inspection of work.

Takeoff and data preparation can be performed using Business Center – HCE powered by Trimble, and the design file sent wirelessly to the controller in the field.

By eliminating trips back to the office to retrieve or download the latest design and work order data, the process is streamlined and enables field crews to have the most up-to-date information, reducing downtime and making field crews more efficient and productive.

Liebherr GCS900 Dual GPS Dozer 2The Connected Machine

Demonstration of the productivity improvements from real-time, two-way data for on-machine grade control systems, which creates an intelligent "live" link between the machines and the office.

The live link enables contractors to rapidly send up-to-date design information from Business Center – HCE to the cab, eliminating time consuming trips between the office and the site and reducing errors associated with use of incorrect or out-of-date site models.

Two-way data also allows the equipment manager to connect their assets remotely and use VisionLink powered by Trimble to monitor site production volumes, compaction performance, and equipment productivity and utilisation

VisionLink Application 001Connecting People

Demonstration of the Connected Community powered by Trimble.

Using the Internet, contractors can integrate head office, site office and field crew operations in a communication portal that can be accessed by construction project stakeholders to exchange project-related information in a timely and secure fashion.

The Connected Community can provide insight into project operations, head office activities and provide a collaboration site that allows efficient sharing of information and rapid resolution of site problems and requests for information.

The collaborative environment leverages information resources, promotes efficiencies, and reduces delays associated with communicating and sharing information with multiple stakeholders on the construction site.

At the bauma Africa 2013, Trimble will partner with SITECH distributors to show how leveraging Connected Site solutions increase productivity and improve efficiency. Visit Trimble and SITECH at bauma Africa 2013 outdoor at stand B.03
