Ensuring corporate social responsibility in the plan

If thoughts are embedded into plans, then living ‘socially responsible’ comes with every opportunity

Barloworld strongly believes that contributing back to the society that it operates in is essential for sustainability. “Each employee, One day”, is the slogan for the Barloworld Logistics’ Corporate Social Responsibility drive. The Middle East operation of Barloworld recently went through a restructure resulting in changes to their warehouses and offices. The old warehouses and offices had many items such as furniture, carpets, file cabinets, refrigerators, microwaves, crockery items, DVD player, lights and lamps, drawing board, computer monitors, key boards, toast maker, bookshelves and curtains which could be easily reused.

Barloworld Logistics was referred recently to Al Ihsan Charity Centre, located in Ajman, which started its operation in 1990 through the efforts of individuals until a residence was officially established in 1998 under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman. The charity centre provides assistance to poor families who do not have an income, which includes widows, divorcees, deserted women and disabled families. It also contributes by providing orphans and fatherless children with comprehensive care by meeting their needs and the needs of their families.

A great help

“Considering their wide range of charity projects and large number of beneficiaries, we were happy to handover these goods them,” said Sanjay More, Head – Marketing & Communications for Barloworld Logistics (FM&S). Mr. Abdullah M. Aljaadi, Deputy of Executive Director for Financial Affairs at Al Ihsan Charity Center praised Barloworld Logistics’ decision saying, ”This is going to be of great help to many needy families.”

He adds further, “Initially we sent only one pickup and the people at Barloworld were asking for more trucks, we could not believe the amount of goods given by Barloworld, so finally they arranged 5 pick-ups from their side and a total of seven pick-ups were delivered. We are very happy as most of the goods are in very good condition. We will be able to use them all and it’s a generous act. We look forward for more companies to come forward and help more often.”

“After the success of our employees’ contribution to the Pakistan flood cause, we have been looking for another opportunity to give back to the communities in which we operate. I see this as only a beginning and we are planning to have a full fledge programme wherein each employee of Barloworld can volunteer a day of their work lives for a social cause,” added Mr. More.
