Foton to set up new assembly plant in Lagos

India’s Kewalram Chanrai Group, is partnering with car maker, Foton to establish an automobile assembling plant that will produce Foton’s range of vehicles in Lagos, Nigeria

The assembling plant is estimated to cost over US$62mn and will hold an initial production capacity of 15,000 units annually, the company said.

"This plant will assemble the full range of commercial and passenger vehicles as offered by the Group including high-quality trucks, buses, vans, pick-ups, SUV's, etc. The assembly plant will meet global industry standards,” said Raju Sawlani, executive director, Kewalram Chanrai Group.

He added that the group has already acquired 25 acres of land for the plant, and are in the process of finalising designs, importation of equipments.

He also said that the company is in the process of finalizing the design and importation of other necessary tools and equipment needed for effective take off.

The plant which will house assembling of commercial and passenger vehicles including trucks, vans, buses, sport utility vehicles and pick-ups.

China’s Foton is the largest vehicle producer in country China and the second largest in the world.
