Ethiopian Airlines was named the ‘African Airline of the Year’ and won the ‘Best Cabin Crew’ title at the recent African Travel Market (AKWAABA) 2013 awards

Ethiopian Airlines managing director Ato Essayas WoldeMariam said, “We are honored to receive these two awards in Africa which will encourage our workforce of over 8,000 to put in more efforts for the development of African Aviation.”

The airline group’s chief executive officer, Tewolde Gebremariam, said, “By combining the latest aircraft technology like the B-787 Dreamliner with well trained and qualified employees, Ethiopian Airlines is connecting Africa with the rest of the world.”

In 2013, Ethiopian Airlines also won the SKYTRAX award for the ‘Best Airline Staff Service in Africa’ and the ‘Best Airline in Africa’ title at the recent Passengers Choice Awards.

The airline operates flights to 46 African cities and 30 other international destinations in the world. It founded the ASKY Airlines in 2008 that flies to 22 cities in West and Central Africa. Earlier this year, Ethiopian Airlines also signed a deal with Air Malawi to purchase a 49 per cent stake in the operator.

AKWAABA is held annually in Lagos, Nigeria, with more than 20 countries, 12 international airlines, along with African hotel chains and travel and tour operators participating.
