Walkabout Resources, an Australian-owned energy minerals developer, has received the necessary approval to use and operate the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) at the Lindi Jumbo Graphite Mine in southeast Tanzania
An operating permit for the 28.3 ha TSF was issued by the Ministry of Water in Dodoma and is the final approval required for the start-up of the mine. The TSF, reportedly constructed to the highest international standards, represents one of the most significant capital works undertaken at the mine. It will capture and recirculate water in excess of that required for the environmentally sound storage of tailings. The recirculation reduces the need for new water to be supplied for the plant process.
The construction of the TSF has been monitored throughout by independent engineers to ensure it meets design standards. Although issued, the permit requires some minor updates to operating documentation and some further monitoring equipment to be installed.
"With the receipt of the final government approval for the operation of the Lindi Jumbo mine, we are now clear to commence both wet commissioning and production of the mine,” exclaimed managing director & CEO of Walkabout Resources, Andrew Cunningham.
Earlier this year, the mine marked another milestone when it achieved its first ore feed. Click here to discover more.
