Volvo’s EW145B PRIME excavator has been launched for the Africa and Middle East markets, said the company in a statement

Following a successful launch in 2009, the fuel efficient machine will be introduced in the Middle East and Africa, with some additional features as well. Authorised dealers of Volvo Construction Equipment will be selling the machine, said Volvo.

The machine is known for high fuel efficiency, high digging capacity and smooth on-road performance. However, with the launch for the MEA market, the EW145B PRIME wheeled excavator has been customised. A tropical cooling option has been added, which allows the D6E six-cylinder engine to function in high ambient temperatures of up to 47°C. The undercarriage of the model has been upgraded as well with new axles that can handle a larger machine weight and digging forces. The engine continues to provide high power and torque through a common rail fuel system and IEGR internal exhaust gas recirculating system, thereby reducing emissions and noise levels.

The standard twin wheels offer stability and a smoother ride, making the machine an ideal fit in urban areas. While travelling between work sites, the excavator can reach speeds of up to 37 km/ hour, eliminating the need for additional transport, explained Volvo.

In addition to tweaks, the EW145B PRIME’s high-performing hydraulics incorporate the latest technology, including flow regeneration and automatic priority – systems that help enable the machine to perform at its best in all conditions. The advanced hydraulics also reduce fuel consumption when travelling and includes both a ‘creep’ working mode and cruise control function. The EW145B Prime brings with it operator-selected working modes, and a fuel-saving G5 mode is included for more economical operation when conducting lighter work.

The operator cab is quiet and comfortable, and designed to reduce operator fatigue with features such as multi-adjustable seats and hydraulic dampening mounts that absorb shocks. There is good all-round visibility in the cab, which is also supplied with pressurised and filtered air through an automatic climate control system with 13 vents.

Volvo’s excavator is also equipped with quick fit attachment systems for rapid tool changes, and is validated to be an easy machine to maintain by the company.
