Ritchie Bros. sells mining equipment items in South Africa

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers has sold more than 690 mining equipment items, trucks, attachments and parts at a public auction in Witbank, South Africa

The auction welcomed more than 270 registered bidders from more than 45 countries worldwide to bid at both the auction site and online.

“The unreserved auction in Witbank attracted a truly global audience of on-site and online bidders from a range of countries including DR Congo, Mozambique, Egypt, Russia, Australia, Portugal, the UK and many more,” said Guylain Turgeon, senior vice president of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers.

Equipment showcased at the event included 26 crawler tractors, including two 2008 Caterpillar D9T that were bought for US$270,000 each.

“More than 60 per cent was sold to buyers from outside of South Africa. Equipment prices were particularly strong in the auction for heavy construction items and trucks,” he added.

"We also witnessed strong competition from live online bidders, which resulted in more than half of the gross auction proceeds being generated over the Internet."

Set up in 1958, Ritchie Bros. has an auction calendar, which features 129 unreserved public auctions globally.
