After premiering at bauma 2022 and following successful validation at a site in Indonesia, the R 9300 Generation 8 – the latest excavator in the Liebherr mining range – is now available for purchase

The R 9300 will replace the R 9250 within the 250-tonne class and comes with the latest Liebherr mining technology as standard. This technology provides the machines with improved onsite performance as well as compatibility with the company’s Assistance Systems and future product enhancements such as automation, zero emission solutions and digital services.

The latest excavator has now proved its worth following operations at a mining site in Indonesia. A pre-series unit of the R 9300 was used by mining contractor Karunia to remove and load overburden into 100- and 130-tonne trucks at the Tabang mine. Since September 2022, the excavator has averaged 486 operational hours per month and 94% availability. A production study of the excavator was also undertaken at the Tabang mine earlier this year. During the study, the R 9300 achieved a 26 second average cycle time, helping the excavator reach instantaneous productivity of 1,371 bank cubic metres (BCM) per hour (3,017 tonnes per hour). It also attained a fuel efficiency ratio of 9.22 BCM per litre of fuel burned.

According to Liebherr, the R9300 boasts many advantages over its predecessors including lower-fuel consumption; lighter and stronger updated attachments with high-performance components such as a new stick and boom design and aluminium covers installed as standard; a lean design enabling an increase in bucket size in both backhoe and face shovel configurations; and an extended lifespan of 33% above the R 9250, from 45,000 hours to 60,000. An electric-drive version of the R 9300 is currently under development and will be available in the near future.

The excavator will enter serial production in 2024, with the backhoe configuration available from Q1 and the face shovel configuration from Q2.
