Konecranes Southern Africa has secured a contract worth more than US$1mn for the delivery of a variety of cranes, ranging from 10 to 100 tonnes in size, from Sonils Oil & Gas in Angola

Konecranes will provide the oil and gas firm with 10 overhead cranes, including a 100-tonne overhead crane, 20 five-tonne overhead cranes and Jib cranes. Delivery of the cranes has been scheduled for early 2013 and will increase the company's growing footprint across Africa.

Late last year, Konecranes delivered 10 Konecranes Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes to Ports and Cargo Handling Services (PCHS) in Lagos, Nigeria.

Delivered on schedule to the company’s terminal in Tin Can Island Port, the RTG cranes were equipped with Konecranes cabin, which offered improved ergonomics and visibility.

Konecranes Southern Africa sales and marketing director John Macdonald said, “With the delivery of 10 RTGs to Sifax, Konecranes now has 32 RTGs in operation in West Africa.”

The RTG cranes were equipped with the latest DGPS-assisted technology for container yards, including auto-steering feature to keep the crane on a pre-programmed, straight-driving path.
