The Congo Ministry of Mines and the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) hosted a workshop, 8 - 10 December 2016, which provided technical assistance to mining sector stakeholders in negotiating, implementing and monitoring mining contracts more effectively and efficiently
The workshop in Brazzaville will be followed by a series of wider training sessions in the Congo, which is a United Nations-funded project that is part of the Africa Mining Vision (AMV). With AMDC as the implementing partner, the AMV project aims to strengthen the country’s capacity to negotiate and manage its mining contracts in order to optimise the development effects generated from the revenues of these contracts from both a sustainable growth and socioeconomic perspective.
The AMV takes a multi-stakeholder process, which is inclusive, and where governments, private sector and non-state participants are systematically engaged in finding pragmatic ways to support resource-based development in Africa. The key achievement of the AMV is in the process of engagement in countries and regions and managing expectations more efficiently, says the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
Project Coordinator and AMDC Officer, Claudine Sigam, said, “We see this as an opportunity to collaborate with the Government of Congo and to create synergies with other development partners who are engaged in similar initiatives.”
Participants from various ministries are expected to attend as well as representatives from public institutions, geological survey organisations and from among the general population.
