Condra has delivered a range of lifting equipment to Ivanplats' Platreef Mine in South Africa

Electric hoists, two overhead cranes and chain blocks have all been delivered to the mine which is part of the Platreef PGM project in Limpopo Province, South Africa and that has been under development by Ivanplats since 2020.

Mine production at Platreef – which comprises two vertical production shafts, a ventilation shaft, a concentrator and associated supporting infrastructure – is scheduled to begin later this year and is expected to deliver 12 megatons per annum over three decades

Consulting engineers, Dowding Reynard and Associates, selected Condra to manufacture the overhead cranes and hoists which are currently being installed. The electric cranes supplied are single-girder and double-girder overhead configuration, and are for the filter building and the plant workshop. According to Condra, lifting capacity of the single-girder crane is five tons, while the double-girder crane will lift loads up to ten tons. Control of both cranes will be by radio remote with manual pendant back-up.

Further, two hoists were also supplied in addition to the cranes, to be used for maintenance work. These were a short-headroom hoist for the tailings filter, and a K-Series hoist for the mill feed conveyor.
