The global water and sanitation community will meet in Dakar, Senegal, on 21-26 March 2022, for the ninth World Water Forum

This year's forum will go ahead under the theme Water Security for Peace and Development.

The first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa, the 9th World Water Forum focuses on the 2030 Agenda for transformative action. This vision is a roadmap with four priorities: water security and sanitation; cooperation; rural development; and means tools.

The conference will bring together governments, the private sector and civil society organisations in order to strengthen the implementation of actions needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The 9th World Water Forum will also provide a platform for expression for all stakeholders (including women's groups, youth, farmers, pastoralists and fishermen) and thus contribute to the qualitative transformation of people's daily lives and improving the performance of the productive sectors.

This year’s forum has also been dubbed “The Forum of Responses” thanks to its continued pursuit of strong outcomes with solutions for communities around the globe.

Moved by that goal, the organizing committee has put in place the ‘Initiative Dakar 2022’ that aims at collecting, supporting and showcasing projects from around the world that create real economic, social and environmental impact on the lives of populations.
