Inventor Petra Wadström has developed Solvatten, an environmentally friendly system that makes unsafe water drinkable using solar energy
Solvatten combines heat, UV and a built in filter in a specially designed container to clean contaminated water by filtrating macro-organisms which cause diseases.
Half a billion people heat and treat their water by boiling it, using charcoal, kerosene or firewood. Solvatten is solar powered and can reduce use of these fuels. The portable 10-litre container is filled and placed in the sun. The hot water is used for hygiene and cooking, or cooled in the shade for drinking.
