Waste management company averda has won a five-year contract to execute city cleaning services in Ingombota, Angola

According to the contract, averda would operate under the name Ecoverde in a joint venture agreement.

Ingombota is the political and economic hub of Angola, with more than 160,000 residents. The district houses the Angolan parliament, banks, hotels, the presidential palace, three European embassies, the central bank, three towers and the headquarters of a multinational company.

Mohamed Ali Hodeib, chief operating officer for the Levant and Africa, averda said, “We are happy to be serving the people of Luanda. The stabilisation phase of the operation, which debuted in April, is now complete. averda is fully deployed through Ecoverde, having achieved the initial target of bringing the city streets to the desired level of cleanliness, at par with our international standards.”

averda cleans over 6,000 km of streets every month in the district, stated officials from the company.

The contract in Angola is the first one for averda, and the second in Africa. The company initiated waste management services in Morocco in 2012. A mobilisation phase was started in August 2013, when experienced teams conducted ground surveys to design specific and durable waste solutions. Equipment such as vehicles and containers, mechanical bin washers and small vehicles were brought in to clean the cities.

In September 2014, the scope of work widened from waste collection to include sweeping. averda introduced a new efficient and environment-friendly vehicle for mechanical sweeping and automatic bin washing for the first time in Angola.
