Siemens has officially opened a new Electrification and Automation factory in Egypt, reinforcing its commitment to expanding local manufacturing and supporting the country's growing energy and infrastructure sectors

The new plant will manufacture essential power-sector technologies locally, including switchgear, substation control and monitoring equipment, protection systems, and integrated cybersecurity solutions. These products are designed to address Egypt's evolving electricity requirements, infrastructure expansion, and transition towards cleaner energy sources.

"Localizing the production of critical energy technologies is key to building resilient infrastructure and competitive industries," said Stephan May, CEO of electrification and automation at Siemens. "With our new facility, we bring production closer to our customers, strengthening supply chains, accelerating delivery and supporting Egypt's industrial growth and energy transition. This facility moves with speed to support Egypt's ability to adopt advanced technology and achieve its ambitious goals, especially in integrating renewables and ensuring the highest cybersecurity standards for its power infrastructure."

Supporting Egypt's renewable energy transition

Egypt has increased its renewable energy ambitions, setting a target for green energy to account for 45% of its energy mix by 2028. Siemens' new facility will contribute to this objective by supplying technologies for electricity transmission and distribution networks, as well as equipment required by the country's expanding renewable energy industry. Its solutions incorporate cybersecurity into substation control systems, helping protect critical power infrastructure in line with stringent international standards.

The investment also aligns with Egypt's National Industry Strategy for 2024–2030, which prioritizes electrical and engineering industries to encourage domestic production and increase manufacturing's contribution to the national economy.

The project builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Siemens and Egypt's Industrial Development Authority in September 2024 to promote the local manufacture of electrical products. Domestic production is expected to strengthen supply networks and equip Egyptian engineering, procurement, and construction companies to undertake energy and infrastructure projects throughout Egypt, North Africa, and other African markets.

"Today reflects Siemens' belief in Egypt's future. A future that is powered by innovation, sustainability, and collaboration," said Mostafa El-Bagoury, CEO of Siemens Egypt. "The new facility represents Siemens' latest step in a journey that combines global expertise with local empowerment, delivering cutting-edge technologies made in Egypt, for Egypt and beyond."

Siemens power academy to develop local skills

An important component of the new factory is the Siemens Power Academy, which will provide structured training and development opportunities for customers and the local workforce. Equipped with dedicated classrooms and learning facilities, the Academy allows participants to develop practical skills close to active manufacturing operations and live technology demonstrations.

During its first year, the initiative aims to train professionals in designing, operating, and maintaining sophisticated energy infrastructure. The program extends Siemens' longstanding commitment to vocational education and workforce development in Egypt.

Located alongside the manufacturing area, a dedicated Customer Experience Center will showcase the company's latest digital twin and Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled technologies. Customers, business partners, and other stakeholders will be able to explore solutions designed to improve energy management and optimize electricity grids, supporting Egypt's wider digitalisation and infrastructure modernisation efforts.

Strengthening a 125-Year partnership with Egypt

Siemens has maintained a presence in Egypt for 125 years, contributing technologies and expertise across the country's industrial, energy, and infrastructure sectors. Its involvement includes supporting the development of Egypt's high-speed rail network, advancing electricity grid modernisation, and establishing the Middle East's first Industry 4.0 Innovation Center in the New Administrative Capital.

The newly inaugurated Electrification and Automation factory marks a significant evolution in the company's long-standing relationship with Egypt. By shifting beyond technology delivery towards local manufacturing, Siemens aims to increase domestic value creation, develop specialized technical capabilities, strengthen industrial supply chains, and help position Egypt as a regional center for advanced manufacturing and energy technology.
