The Zambian government has set aside ZMK24bn for the installation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in schools throughout the country

According to the ministry of Communications and Transport, the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) will install ICTs in 148 schools and 50 colleges in the country.

The ZICTA Connecting Learning Institutions programme was launched in Lusaka recently. The institution is to undertake the implementation of the Universal Access to ICTs Policy.

ICTs advance good governance and also improve administration of Government institutions, ministry officials have observed.

Government is committed to improving the welfare of the people as ICTs in education play an important role in enhancing development in the country as people have access to the means of production. It is government’s desire that every child has access to ICTs to improve access to knowledge in the school environment. ICTs are also an important tool for national development.

And ZICTA board chairperson Gertrude Akapelwa-Euheni said the organization recognizes the importance of investing in ICTs because of the critical role they play in the delivery of education services.

Under the project, the benefitting schools will receive 40 computers and an additional two for administrative use.
