UNAMID has released a statement, saying that it hopes that this resolution - ending more than two decades of economic sanctions - will contribute significantly to improving the lives of the Sudanese people, including the community we serve in the Darfur region.
The UNAMID Special Representative and Darfur's chief mediator, Grimaya Kingsley Mamapolo, welcomed the US decision: "On behalf of the mission, I would like to congratulate the people and the Government of the Republic of the Sudan on the decision to lift the US sanctions. We hope that this decision will make great progress towards improving the living conditions of the people of Darfur we serve in providing greater livelihood opportunities and improving education and health service. "
"I also hope that this decision will be a positive step towards lasting peace, stability and sustainable development in Darfur."
"I call on all Sudanese parties to take this opportunity to accelerate the completion of the peace process and to use this window as a force to advance lasting peace in Darfur," said Mapolo.
