Bidvest subsidiary Voltex LSis has secured a contract to supply Eskom for the next three years

Under the terms of the deal, Votlex will supply the public-owned South African power utility with their Susol range of electronic trip unit circuit breakers.

The LSis Susol electronic moulded case circuit breaker and the 125A single pole miniature circuit breaker, which are manufactured by LS Industrial Systems, the industrial division of the LG Group, will be provided to Eskom-run facilities across the country.

Bruce Clegg, sales manager of Voltex LSis Midrand said the products’ key features include an electronic trip unit which is more reliable than thermal magnetic trip units.

The current setting, he added, lr (A) is adjustable to 0.4 of full load current (SLC) and it offers a long time overload protection and tripping delay, td (SEC), with the ability to adjust the amperage to suit requirements making versatility a key asset.

According to Eskom, the utility firm has been under mounting pressure of late to resolve issues behind persistent blackouts, including the installation of more power generation capacity.

Public enterprises minister Lynne Brown last week called upon the company to bring the under-construction Medupi power plant online by June 2015.
