Zimbabwe to establish biggest ethanol plant in Africa

Green Fuel, a company operating in Zimbabwe is reported to be
establishing a billion dollar ethanol plant to be one of the biggest
in Africa.

According to a reliable source, the project is being embarked on at
Chisumbanje in Chipinge, Zimbabwe.

lt is reported that the initiative is anticipated to create
approximately 7,000 jobs and will meet 20 per cent of the country's total fuel
requirements. The project is expected to have been established by March
2011. lt is also expected to produce 100mn l of ethanol per annum.

About 10,000 hectares have been set aside for local farmers to be
contracted to grow sugarcane in the lowveld.

Ethanol is a clean-burning motor fuel that is produced from
renewable sources such as sugar cane.The project is also being
implemented as a means of mitigating climate change.

Currently, Zimbabwe does not blend ethanol in its fuel nor does the
nation have legislation that regulates and promotes the use of
ethanol, according to sources.
