Yingli Green consortium awarded solar power projects in Algeria

A consortium comprising China’s Yingli Green Energy, Sinohydro Corporation and Hydrochina has been awarded a contract to design and construct some of Shariket el Kahraba wa el Taket el Moutadiadida (SKTM)’s photovoltaic (PV) solar projects in Algeria

SKTM, a subsidiary of state-owned utility Sonelgaz, is developing 318 MW of PV solar power projects across Algeria. The consortium from China will develop 233 MW PV solar projects for SKTM.

Constructions of these projects will commence in January 2014 and the projects have been scheduled for completion in eight months, said Yingli Green.

Yingli Green is a manufacturer of PV modules, with 20 regional offices across the globe. Until now, the company has distributed more than 7,000 MW PV modules to customers worldwide.

Sinohydro is a subsidiary of Sinohydro Group, which runs diversified businesses ranging from hydropower construction to project financing, design, implementation and operation. Hydrochina is a technical services provider for hydropower and wind power development projects.

SKTM chairman Chahar Boulakhras said, “Based on competitive strength and reliable solutions, the consortium has won the largest portion of our projects. Once operational, these ventures will help us to relieve the power supply pressures in Algeria to some extent.”

Yingli Green chief executive officer Liansheng Miao said, “We are very pleased to win these projects. The cooperation with Sinohydro and Hydrochina marks a new approach to PV project development and we are excited to be at the forefront of this initiative.”
