Schneider Electric has announced that two of its energy projects were among the 100 innovative sustainable development ventures showcased in the recent African Forum in Paris

The annual “African Forum – 100 innovations for sustainable development”, which has been initiated by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted new developments in the healthcare, environment, agriculture and food safety, education and technology sectors.

One project which was selected by the forum, encompasses micro-credit solutions in solar energy for rural and urban areas.

This project was developed by Schneider Electric along with MIFED. It has been deployed in Cameroon, Tanzania and Ethiopia. The venture was sponsored by the Participatory Microfinance Group for Africa (PAMIGA).

The other project was the company’s 108 kWh solar power plant in Abu Monkar, Egypt.

Schneider Electric’s sustainable development engineer at Cameroon, René Pierrot Ekoé, was among the 20 speakers at the forum, who shared their ideas on corporate best practices.

Schneider Electric Africa president Mohammed Saad said, “The strength of our energy programme lies in the combination of R&D capabilities with the knowledge of our local employees, who are well aware of their ecosystems.  All our employees who made these two projects happen can be proud to see their efforts recognised by the French government.”
