Oriented Energy Resources said it plans to generate 10MW of electricity within four months from an upcoming solar power project in Borno State, Nigeria

The company’s executive chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, said the project would be undertaken in partnership with Saudi Arabia-based Al-Qahtani & Sons Group and Aurinka International of Spain.

According to Indimi, the main objective of the venture is to revive industries which have been shut down due to perennial power supply.

“We hope to start the process of generating power shortly, by installing the necessary equipment to build a power plant. And, in the next three to four months, we hope to produce 10MW of electricity here in Borno,” Indimi said.

“We will in a short while begin the processes of securing permission from the government to enable us to place the power on the national grid,” he added.

Indimi said the company would begin to produce smaller power plants in the state, pending federal approval.

Oriented Energy Resources is also working on plans to collaborate with financial institutions to enable individuals to secure loans for their own personal power plants in the state, Indimi said.

“Solar energy requires almost zero per cent maintenance, unlike thermal or hydro that requires daily inputs,” he said.

“All you need in solar is the setting up of the power plant which requires little maintenance over the years,” Indimi concluded.
