The Nigerian minister of state for power, Darius Ishaku, has assured the people of the Taraba State that the Kashimbila multi-purpose dam will be completed by April 2014
Ishaku told the governor of Taraba State, Danbaba Suntai, that the NGN 60.63 billion (US$374.2 million) project would not be abandoned and he would ensure completion of the 40MW hydro dam on time. The dam would become a major source of electricity for people in the area.
“The federal government is committed to the improvement of the lives of citizens through provision for regular electricity to all Nigerians for both domestic and commercial purposes,” said Ishaku.
He added that the current electricity tariff increase was to encourage investors in the power sector and to make regular electricity supply sustainable for economic growth.
Ishaku also said that the adjusted rate of payment for the commercial users was minimal when compared to the amount spent on self-alternative power currently.
Earlier, the governor commended the federal government for its efforts in making the rural areas benefit from projects such as the Kashimbila dam.
