Gide to advise on Malian solar project

Law firm Gide will be advising a consortium of investors on a solar power plant project involving a public-private partnership between World Bank member group IFC InfraVentures, Scatec Solar and Africa Power 1

Gide’s advisory team consists of partner John Crothers, who will be assisted by associates Pierre Bernheim and Barthélemy Littot, for project-related aspects. Partner David Boitout has been chosen to advise on corporate law matters.

On Malian law aspects, Gide will be assisted by Bérenger Meuke of Jurifis Consult.

The project, which costs US$56.9mn, includes the financing, construction and operation of a 33MW solar power plant in Segou, located 240 kilometres east of the Malian capital Bamako. The concession contract and the power purchase agreement (PPA) were signed with the Malian authorities in Bamako on 9 July 2015.

The country’s minister for energy and water Mamadou Frankaly Keita called it a “landmark agreement”, which will make it possible to meet Mali’s considerable energy demand, whilst also developing the renewable energy sector in a country that has abundant solar resources.
