Electricity Meters Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (EMMAN) has announced its intentions to increase production of locally manufactured meters

EMMAN executive secretary, Muideen Ibrahim, informed local media that the association is aiming to increase the production of locally manufactured meters for industries. The aim is to augment the production from 25,000 to 50,000. This effort is believed to lead to a boost in the country’s economy through curbing of non-technical losses and contribute to the country's GDP.

“The ongoing metering project will bring about economic revolution and development as it will create job opportunities for unemployed Nigerians. It will also enhance transfer of technology to the country,” Ibrahim commented.

The local meter manufacturers are working to meet international standards and the meters are custom-built for the extreme weather conditions in Nigeria. The association is determined to have their factories work at full capacity to deliver to the country’s growing demand for meters.

In light of President Muhammadu Buhari's ambitious target of producing 10,000MW of power in the country by 2019, this move is of great significance.
