TAQA to build 300MW power plant in Ghana

Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA) has revealed plans to build an energy facility that will generate 300MW of power at the Takoradi Thermal plant in Ghana

The energy company also expressed interest in helping Ghana in liquefied natural gas to undertake industrial activities.

This decision was reached in Abu Dhabi recently following a meeting held by the delegates of Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama and the management of TAQA Group of Companies.

The plant will make the precarious power situation in the country a thing of the past, and pave way for Ghana to become a net exporter of power, Ghana president, Dramani Mahama said.

With active involvement and partnership of the private sector, President Mahama said the country is on course to achieve its goal of generating 5,000MW of power by 2016.

“What we really need now is the Liquefied Natural Gas in addition to what we have to streamline our supply and consumption in the country,” he explained.

TAQA, which is Ghana’s largest UAE investor, said that additional to the 300MW of power and the Liquefied Natural Gas, it would also enhance the supply of electricity and potable water to the Western and Central regions of Ghana.
The additional 300MW would be built upon completion of another facility at a plant that will generate 110MW by the end of this year.
