Su-Kam’s impact on lighting up Africa

Indian power solutions company Su-Kam Power Systems has accomplished a number of projects in Africa in recent years

Blossoming within the solar industry, the company has earned a name for itself in Africa owing to the power projects it initiated in the region. These included the installation of street-lighting systems in villages of Gabon. 2000 street-lighting systems were reportedly installed in remote districts of Kango, Mouila and Bitam. The solar street lights developed and installed by Su-Kam in these areas work on the ‘Dusk to Dawn’ technology and automatically regulate lighting of street lights after sundown.

The company also managed to install electricity powered by wind and solar energy for the first time for the inhabitants of five remote villages - Chigundu, Mdayaka, Eluyumi, Kumbande and Kadzuwa, all in Malawi. A hybrid solar solution made more sense in this case due to the adequate presence of both solar and wind energy present in the region.

Rwanda is another country that has seen the adverse effects of electricity scarcity. The company set up stand-alone off grid PV plants in 35 schools to help the situation. They also executed solar projects at a mining facility in Zimbabwe and 35 hospitals in Zambia.
