Siemens has agreed a deal to help boost Egypt’s power generation capacity by up to a third by 2020
Under one of a series of MoUs announced at the Egypt Economic Development Conference last week, the German-based multinational conglomerate will be responsible for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) at the 4.4GW Beni Suef power plant project.
The combined-cycle plant will be built in four modules, each consisting of two H-class gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators, one steam turbine, and three generators, the company said.
The firm will also build a factory to manufacture rotor blades for wind turbines, for the planned installation of 2GW of wind power capacity.
The move will create up to 1,000 jobs and will represent a near-trebling of Siemens' footprint in Egypt.
Speaking at the signing of the deal, Joe Kaeser, Siemens president and CEO Joe Kaeser said, "Egypt needs a powerful and reliable energy system to support its long-term, sustainable economic development, and experienced partners who understand the specific challenges facing the country."
