Eskom connect 35,000 homes in Eastern Cape

Eskom’s quest to achieve universal access by 2020 has seen 35,000 new households being connected to the electricity grid across the Eastern Cape for the 11 months ending in February 2017

The new connections in the Eastern Cape are mostly within the rural areas of the province that have never experience aspiring to achieve universal access in the country by 2020.

“We have intensified our implementation programme throughout the country, and we intend achieving an additional 15 000 new connections in the Eastern Cape before the end of the financial year on 31 March. We have connected over 94 000 new households in the province over the past three financial years and the journey continues,” said Mongezi Ntsokolo, Eskom’s Group Executive for Distribution.

“Eskom continues to contribute towards the socio-economic developmental goals of the country by intensifying its electrification delivery programme to respond to the historic backlog in the affected provinces. Changing the lives of our communities is what drives our daily operations. The message to those who are not yet connected is simple: We are coming,” Ntsokolo adds.

New electricity connections have been effected in the following areas of the Eastern Cape:  Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality; Ntabankulu; Mbizana; Umzimvubu; Matatiele; King Sabatha Dalindyebo; Mhlontlo; Nyandeni; Port St John; Ingquza Hill; Senqu; Elundini; Sakhisizwe; Engcobo; Emalahleni; Intsika Yethu; Enoch Mgijima; Raymond Mhlaba; Ngqushwa; Amahlathi; Mnquma; Mbhashe; Koukamma; Sundays River Valley; and Makana.
