MTU Onsite Energy has received a Gold Award in the sixth annual Product of the Year competition for its diesel-powered generator set based on the all-new MTU Series 1600 engine.
Sponsored by Consulting Specifying Engineer magazine, the award recognises the best products introduced in 2009, according to votes cast by professional engineers in 10 categories.
The new MTU Onsite Energy Series 1600 generator set covers the range of 250 kW to 600 kW and features MTU’s newest engine, the MTU Series 1600 diesel engine. Currently available in 12V, 10V and 6-cylinder inline configurations, the Series 1600 engine extends MTU Onsite Energy’s proprietary power range from 250 kW up to 3,250 kW. MTU engine hallmarks include exceptional reliability, high power density and fuel efficiency.
The EPA certified gensets offer ISO 8528-5 compliance at 85 per cent load, NFPA 110 one-step rated load acceptance and UL-recognised digital control panels. The unit’s outlet box has been designed to incorporate the breaker and control panels in one streamlined package.
“This configuration of the Series 1600 engine was designed by MTU exclusively for gen-drive applications,” says Steve Hanek, Industrial Sales Manager for MTU Onsite Energy. ”Emergency standby performance and load acceptance characteristics were top priorities from engine conception to generator-set production, which shows in the product’s performance and in its recognition as one of the top products in its category for 2009.”
MTU Onsite Energy also received a Product of the Year Award in 2008 for its 3,250 kW generator set, which features the 20V configuration of MTU’s Series 4000 engine and was the first 1800-rpm unit of its kind in North America.
The Product of the Year Awards were established to present Consulting Specifying Engineer readers with the top new products in the major M/E/P engineering system disciplines the professional trade magazine regularly covers: HVAC, building automation and controls, plumbing, fire protection, communications, electrical, power generation, test instruments, software and lighting.
