Nigeria’s Dangote Group has planned to commission a US$50mn 30 MW power plant in Zambia during Q1 2014, which will supply electricity to its upcoming cement factory in Ndola city
According to the Times of Zambia, Dangote Group general manager (projects), Anand Kameshwar, said, “The construction works for the project are progressing well, with the major equipment already having been installed. The cement manufacturing factory is expected to become fully operational in July 2014.”
The Dangote Group runs diversified businesses ranging from cement to foodstuff including sugar, pastas, flour, mineral water, milk and juices. The group recently invested US$400mn to set up a 3,000-tonne cement plant in the outskirts of Ndola.
This will be the third cement factory in the city, which already houses two others run by Zambezi Portland and Lafarge Cement.
Earlier this year, Aliko Dangote, the owner of Dangote Group, announced plans to invest US$16bn over the next four years in cement, petrochemicals and the agriculture industries across the world.
