Global temporary power solutions company, Altaaqa Global Caterpillar Rental Power, has developed a solution to providing reliable energy access in Cameroon.
Altaaqa Global installed a 50MW natural gas power plant in Douala, one of the most heavily populated cities in the Cameroon. The power plant provided reliable power to Cameroon’s grid, giving the Cameroonian people and industries with a new, reliable source of electricity.
Altaaqa partnered with Caterpillar University, Caterpillar’s proprietary training platform to launch a Customer Development Programme. The pilot programme is offered to a team of chosen local engineers and technical workers from Altaaqa's client Eneo, Cameroon’s integrated utility provider, the company noted.
The programme features three methods of instruction: classroom teaching, online instruction and on-the-job mentoring with Altaaqa Global's Cat-certified in-house technicans.
According to Altaaqa, the Eneo engineers were enrolled to give expert-curated modules on service, safety and equipment operation.
Speaking about the benefits of the training programme, Peter den Boogert, CEO of Altaaqa Global, said, “In all of our projects, we provide more than electricity; we offer training and employment opportunities to locals. In fact, 95 per cent of our site employees in our projects around the world is composed of locals.”
