Scottish power generation company Aggreko has announced a three-year contract extension with Côte d’Ivoire for the 200MW gas-fired power project in the Vridi area near Abidjan
If needed, Aggreko has offered to extend the contract a further two years, confirmed officials. The 200MW Vridi plant provides power to the West African nation and surrounding countries that are connected to Côte d’Ivoire’s power grid. It also maintains power supply to business and domestic users in the area.
Amidou Traore, director general of CI-Energies, said, “We are pleased to be extending the Aggreko project, which forms an important part of our programme of strengthening the energy infrastructure across the country. The power supplied from the Aggreko plant is an important component of our energy generation mix and helps us maintain supply to our customers while we develop our long-term infrastructure programmes.”
The Vridi plant was installed in 2010 and the first phase produced 70MW. In 2011, it was increased to 100MW and in 2013, to 200MW. Côte d’Ivoire’s economy has been growing and the country has registered a GDP growth of nine per cent, establishing the need for a reliable power infrastructure.
