African Energy Resources will finalise a environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) and a definitive feasability study (DFS) of the Sese Coal Project and Mmamabula West Coal Project in Botswana

An ESIA and feasibility study to assess the underground mining, processing, marketing and transport logistics of nearly four million tonne per annum of coal at Mmamabula West Coal Project will also be completed in March 2014.

After completing the study, African Energy Resources would submit an application for a mining licence. The company has also added that its consortium with Saudi Arabia-incorporated company ACWA Power International has been shortlisted to submit a bid for the 300MW greenfield power project tender in March.

The Sese Project can power several 300MW projects, and contains 2.5bn tonnes of coal.

Mmamabula is a planned coal mine and coal-fired power station between Gaborone, Francistown and the Serorome River in Botswana.
