Geophysical imaging company ARKeX reports that it has completed an airborne gravity gradiometry survey in Kenya for Tullow Oil
The survey covers blocks 12A, 10A and 10BA, surrounding Lake Turkana in North West Kenya. ARKeX says that it is one of the "larger" airborne Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometer (FTG) surveys flown to date.
The Turkana Rift Basin is part of the East African Rift and shares many geological attributes with the Lake Albert Rift Basin in Uganda, where Tullow has had a number of major discoveries.
Survey data
The Kenyan acreage has shown good evidence of a live oil system and the gravity gradiometry survey will help to provide an improved picture of the sub surface geology, ARKeX says.
The survey data will be used to identify basement structures, delineate fault trends and in the delineation of volcanics. The initial data is currently being fast tracked by ARKeX through processing with final processed results due in November.
"It is a remote and demanding environment to operate in but I'm pleased to say we have completed the survey in excellent time and the results should prove extremely useful in shedding new light on this complex geological area," says Paul Versnel, VP Sales ARKeX.
