DP World, a multinational logistics company, has partnered with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), a leading developer and operator of utility-scale renewable energy projects, to develop and implement renewable energy systems across its Middle Eastern and African port operations

"Our partnership with Masdar represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainable operations at our ports and terminals,” said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, DP World chairman and CEO. “By exploring renewable energy solutions, we aim to reduce our carbon footprint and drive positive change in the supply chain industry.”

Specifically, the partners aim to facilitate the adoption of renewable energy and battery energy storage systems within DP World’s supply chain. The two entities will work together to identify the best sites for solar and energy storage system deployment, initially focusing on Senegal, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, Masdar CEO, remarked, “Masdar and DP World are leading the way in the decarbonisation of the company’s port operations and supply chain, to explore all options to advance the development and deployment of renewable energy power and storage systems in hard-to-abate sectors. Following a successful COP28 hosted in the UAE, it is vital that we take action to drive the global energy transition towards tripling renewable energy by 2030.”

The three-year agreement will see the partners share knowledge of the regulatory landscape to overcome inherent challenges and deploy the systems. This latest agreement is in tandem with Masdar’s plans to unlock Africa’s clean energy potential after announcing details at COP28.
