AEF promotes inclusion and diversity

Africa Energy Forum (AEF) is promoting the gender diversity in Africa’s energy spectrum, representing more than 25 per cent female participants from more than 3,000 delegates

In the 2012 edition, around nine per cent of participants were women out of 700 delegates, compared to 91 per cent men.

“We have consciously worked hard over the years to address this imbalance and to ensure more equal gender representation. Although not quite there yet, we are pleased to report progress with 23 per cent of AEF 2018 participants being women,” said the organiser.

“In Lisbon, we expect more than 25 per cent female participants from more than 3,000 delegates – that’s more female delegates attending this year than the total number of AEF 2012 delegates,” the organiser stressed.

With an aim to highlight the importance of inclusion and diversity, all sessions at AEF 2019 will be moderated by leading women in the sector.

Some of the women leaders taking part in the panel discussions include Irene Muloni, minister for energy and mineral development, Uganda; Stefanie Bourne, business director, renewable energy project development, DNV GL; Orli Arav, managing director, EMFin Advisory; Beatrice Nyabira, partner at projects and infrastructure at IKM Advocates, DLA Piper Africa member in Kenya; Gloria Sibusisiwe Magombo, permanent secretary, Ministry of Energy and Power Development, Zimbabwe and others.
