The National Mining Summit in Abuja to discuss mining industry growth in Africa

The National Mining Summit, the mouth piece for the Nigerian Ministry for Mines and Steel Development’s 25-year roadmap, will be held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja from 15 - 17 May 2018

The inaugural event that took place last year, officially opened by Yemi Osinbajo, vice-president of Nigeria, was a great success and received recognition from across the region for bringing together mining ministers from nine Africa Nations.

This year, Kayode Fayemi, Nigerian mining minister, will host the event, and Deloitte will work as a strategic partner. The international organisers, Afrocet Montgomery will be working in conjunction with IMAG GmbH, to coordinate the event.

The agenda will focus on different topics that have been identified as pertinent to the region including clarifying the role of the government in mining, with a particular focus on Ghana, attracting inward investment in West Africa, a showcase of potential and capacity building of enablers for the development of the mining sector, focusing on Nigeria.

The event will see 250 of the mining industry’s thought and decision-making leaders converge for three days in Abuja to shape the sectors' trends in the year ahead.

Running alongside the National Mining Summit will be ConMin West Africa, the leading construction, mining and building materials machines exhibition and conference in the region.

The trade fair’s inaugural edition in June 2017 alongside the co-located National Mining Summit attracted over 1,500 professional visitors and 44 exhibitors from 11 countries, which included industry giants such as Bosch, Case, Dangote, Elkon and Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions.

ConMin West Africa will see foremost suppliers, manufacturers and solution providers showcase an array of products from the construction, building materials and mining sectors. As last year, the conference will be accompanied by a business forum with technical sessions to which exhibitors will be able to make contributions.

The construction industry will also benefit from a number of large-scale projects planned, one of which is to build two entirely new cities close to Abuja and Lagos, Centenary City and Eko Atlantic City. Improvements to infrastructure have also been given approval in addition to the construction of a large oil refinery in order to process the oil extracted domestically and to no longer be reliant on imported oil.
