Terex Trucks has upgraded its two articulated haulers, 28-tonne TA300 and 38-tonne TA400, for the South African mining companies, which mainly use the machines for coal mining
The country’s mining industry has been a driving force for South Africa’s development and although investment in the industry has declined, it is still a big market – contributing US$23.56bn to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2018.
Africa construction market
With the South African government prioritising infrastructure development, there is a lot going on in the country’s construction industry. The re-election of the African National Congress party in May is expected to bring stability and revive Africa’s most industrialised country following the economic slowdown. This has affected the construction industry, which contracted by 1.2 per cent in 2018.
According to the experts, the government’s efforts to enhance transport, residential and industrial infrastructure through the establishment of a fund of more than US$26.32bn will support the growth of the construction industry over the next few years.
The total construction project pipeline in South Africa, including all mega projects, stands at US$192.98bn. With this boost, the country’s construction industry is set to emerge from recession and grow by 2.4 per cent in 2019. China, one of South Africa’s largest trading partners, has also pledged to invest US$2.13bn in the country over the next few years.
“With so many new projects in the pipeline, we have identified South Africa as a major market for Terex Trucks,” said Roger Teece, EMEA regional sales manager at Terex Trucks.
Terex Trucks has made significant investments and improvements to ensure that its TA300 and TA400 continue to support the customers in the toughest applications.
Terex Trucks’ TA300 and TA400
According to the company, the TA300 was upgraded and it’s manufactured with the latest EP320 transmission. The updated machine aims to deliver a five per cent improvement in fuel efficiency, a five kilometre/h increase in speed to 55km/h, an extended maintenance period and enhanced performance when compared with the previous model.
The TA400 aims to boast a heaped capacity of 23 cu/m and is powered by a high performance, fuel-efficient engine that develops a gross power of 331kW and a maximum torque of 2,255 Nm. The planetary gear transmission provides smooth, efficient gear shifting for optimized fuel consumption and reduced cost of operation. Ground level test points and a fully tilting cab, combined with an electronically raised hood, ensure ease of service and reduced downtime.
