The Delta State government has announced that it will invest US$36.13mn to construct rural roads in the Nigerian state

The state’s Urban and Rural Roads Ministry said that it will first investigate the condition of the seven kilometres Ewulu Road in Aniocha North and then commence the construction of roads in Delta North.

Funkekeme Solomon, commissioner for works of Delta State, added, “The state government is poised to construct the rural roads in order to pave way for the realisation of Delta State Beyond Oil programme through the urban and rural integrated road system.”

Delta State Beyond Oil is a state government programme to ensure that in the absence of oil resources, the state remains self-sufficient and will be able to cater for the basic needs of its people.

“The presence of good urban and rural road network across the state would fast track the socio-economy activities in the communities in the state in order to reduce dependency on oil,” noted Solomon.
