President Mugabe opens PCC cement grinding plant in Harare

President Robert Mugabe has opened PPC’s US$85mn cement grinding plant at Msasa in Harare

JSE-listed cement and lime producer PPC's US85mn cement grinding plant at Msasa in Harare, commissioned by President Robert Mugabe, has been opened. 

China’s Sinoma built the 0.7Mt/yr unit that includes a palletiser and cover-wrapping machine, according to the Xinhua News Agency. The plant, PPC’s third production site in the country, was commissioned in late 2016. The facility also features a cement ball mill with dynamic separator and road and rail off-loading facilities. This is in positioning PPC to meet local demand, as well as boost the country’s ability to export to the region.

The PPC's collective capacity, from both Bulawayo and Harare mills, now have a collective capacity of 1.4 mn tonnes per year, allowing the firm to export further to its neighbours, reducing Zimbabwe's reliance on imports. 

Zimbabwe’s Minister of Trade and Commerce Dr Mike Bimha said at the event, 'the Government’s continuous commitment towards ensuring companies like PPC Zimbabwe operate in a business- conducive environment as well as getting a fair return on their investment.'

Todd Moyo, Chairman of PPC Zimbabwe, acknowledged PPC’s significant investment in the mill as a demonstration of its long-term positive outlook and forecast for the country and region.
