Nigeria’s largest cement plant inaugurated

Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest cement factory has been inaugurated in Nigeria by Africas richest man and president of Dangote group, Aliko Dangote

The Dangote-owned Obajana plant, which is located in Kogi State, is expected to produce about 10 million tonnes of cement per year.

The project represents Nigeria's biggest investment in any industrial sector apart from oil. In recent years, the Dangote group has invested some US$6.5 billion in the concrete sector.

President Goodluck Jonathan called the plant a “quantum leap” for Nigeria’s cement sector and there are plans in place to expand Obajana to make it the world’s biggest cement producing plant.

Analysts have said that, with the Nigerian economy expected to grow by about six per cent this year, investments have been pouring in from every sector.

They have warned, however, that growth will not reaching all sectors of society and the gap between the rich and poor has continued to grow wider.
