Owner of Dangote Group Aliko Dangote has revealed plans to invest US$400mn in a cement plant in Kenya
Dangote had said in May this year that the group was investing US$5bn to build cement plants across the African continent, while visitng Kenya as part of a delegation with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has applauded Dangote’s decision to invest US$400mn in the cement processing plant.
No timelines or any estimate on the cement factory’s capacity has, however, been revealed.
Dangote Cement had said earlier this year that it would expand its pan-African production capacity to 55mn tonnes by 2016.
Other countries the cement company has plans to venture into include Cameroon, Ethiopia, Zambia, Tanzania, Senegal and South Africa.
Cement companies already operating in Kenya include Bamburi Cement, ARM Cement and East African Portland Cement.
