Dangote makes new appointments, Cherie Blair named non-executive director

African conglomerate Dangote Industries Limited announced new appointments in an organizational rejig

The cement and sugar maker said chief operating officer, Olakunle Alake, will now be the group managing director and Adenike Fajemirokun, the group chief risk officer, will become the group executive director, president’s office.

Fajemirokun will be the first female executive director in Dangote Group.

Alake has been with the Dangote Group for over two decades and has been the Chief Operating Officer of Dangote Industries Limited since 2007.  He began his  career at audit firm PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Fajemirokun, who began her career as a fire engineer, has over 18 years of experience in risk management in financial, engineering, manufacturing and other industries. She started her career with Ove Arup and Partners as a fire engineer.

Dangote Cement Plc also appointed Cherie Blair, wife of former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Mick Davies as independent non-executive directors.

“The new appointments are to strengthen the Group’s executive management team and to consolidate on its strategic business growth trajectory,” Aliko Dangote, CEO, Dangote Group, said.

“It is exciting seeing a female occupy such a high position. We are gender sensitive and create equal opportunities for both male and female to get to the top,” Dangote added.
