Volvo Construction Equipment will this week host the Construction Climate Challenge (CCC) summit

The one-day event in Gothenburg, Sweden this Wednesday will provide a forum for a range of industry experts, academics and interested stakeholders to discuss the challenges faced by the industry in its drive for sustainability.

Africa is widely regarded to be one of the most vulnerable regions in the world to the effects of climate change, with the African Development Bank among a number of organisations to support schemes aimed at reducing carbon emissions across the continent.

Presenters at the summit will include representatives of Volvo Group, the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF), the European Commission, Stockholm Resilience Centre, the World Green Building Council, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Building Research Establishment.

The event will also see speakers from the Swedish Transport Administration, Swedish Energy Agency, Gothenburg’s local government, Skanska, Balfour Beatty and Heidelberg Cement.

Specific topics for discussion will include innovations, research, various initiatives by the United Nations and European Commission, business models and value chain collaboration – all aimed at reducing the environmental impact of construction.

As well as aiming to foster cooperation through the event, CCC initiative also provides funding for environmental research projects on topics such as circular business models, energy storage systems and reducing carbon emissions during construction.
