Malawi to start construction of Mzuzu international airport in January 2018

Malawi is going to start the construction of Mzuzu International Airport in January, 2018, said Arthur Peter Mutharika, president of the southeastern African country

Mutharika announced this during addressing people at Katoto Roundabout after his arrival in the norther region to execute some official duties.

According to him, the government of Malawi is planning to build an international airport in the country with all modern amenities for the growth and development of trade and business opportunities with neibouring nations and other international marketplaces.

He said that he has directed the minister of transport and public works to ensure that the construction of Mzuzu modern international airport should commence by January 2018, as reported by Malawi news Agency.

In July 2017, Mutharika visited Lusangazi where the airport will be constructed. According to the source, the Exim Bank of China has granted a loan of US$20mnfor this construction.

He further added that the government is planning a number of development programmes in the northern region of the country, one of them including Nkhata Bay-Mzuzu road which is soon to be completed, said the source.

He expressed his wish to visit the road construction site before going back to Lilongwe. “From there, I will announce another good news for the people of the North,” he said.

The Malawi government is also planning to renovate Mzuzu University Library that was gutted by fire a few years ago.
