West Africa airline industry looks to fresh start

Transport ministers from the Mano River Union countries (Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Côte dIvoire) have expressed concern at the deteriorating state of air transportation in West Africa

Speaking at the end of an extraordinary meeting of the Roberts Flight Information Region in Monrovia, the ministers stressed the need to improve security, maintenance of carriers and safety of passengers and equipment.

“There has been instability in Côte d'Ivoire and Mali that has had a negative impact on air transport in the region,” remarked Sierra Leone transport minister Vandy Minnah.

“Whatever the aviation situation in Ghana or Nigeria, the aviation industry in West Africa continues to be weak.”

The meeting assembled aviation experts and key stakeholders from the four countries as they attempted to plot a positive way forward for the region’s airline industry.
