Precision Air introduces mobile money transfer for ticket purchase

Vodacom Tanzania customers will now be able to buy Precision Air (PW) tickets via a mobile phone money transfer after the two companies entered into a partnership offering the facility

Customers booking tickets via mobiles will also get a 20 per cent discount according to the scheme.

PW commercial director Patrick Ndekana said, for using the facility, passengers would need to book through the airline’s call centre or website where the person would be issued a reference number and amount to be paid using M-pesa.

He added, “The tickets booked through PW’s internet or contact centre (M-pesa) are subject to 20 per cent discount. This gives customers’ alternative option alongside using debit or credit cards.”

A PW statement said the decision to launch the facility was reached after Vodacom’s proposal ensuring that they could assist in simplifying the way air customers purchased tickets.

The director said, “This is the first-of-its-kind service in Tanzania... regionally Kenya Airways is doing the same using Safaricom’s M-pesa."

Vodacom Tanzania head of M-Commerce Innocent Ephraim said though some of PW’s fare prices were in US dollars, they would be converted to shilling to support M-pesa transactions, which will be in local currency.

“M-pesa is faster and reliable service that has revolutionised the way money is sent and saved since the launch four years ago,” Ephraim said, hoping the partnership would give customers the best alternative.
