Caterpillar hosts Quarry Days in Johannesburg

Caterpillar together with their dealer for southern Africa, Barloworld Equipment, held a three-day event in Johannesburg this month to introduce new machinery to the South African market

The Johannesburg Quarry Days, an annual worldwide event held by Caterpillar taking place twice a year, presented talks from different industry experts focusing on machine selection, maintenance and ways to maximise productivity.

The event was set up in 2010 with a goal to promote strong customer relations and demonstrate the services the company has to offer to its customers. On site, Caterpillar showcased different machines for loading, hauling, crushing along with support equipment.

Caterpillar’s industry marketing manager, Julien Roux, said, “Caterpillar is a global company but a few years ago we realised that we needed local access to our suppliers and customers. Johannesburg was the perfect place to host the Caterpillar Quarry Days”.

This year Quarry Days focused centrally on energy efficient products as South Africa relies heavily on energy production mainly from the mining industry.

“At Caterpillar we are continuously improving and introducing more energy efficient machines even for less regulated countries. In South Africa we have just introduced a 340D excavator and we will continue to improve our products for any market” said Roux.

At the event, Caterpillar also announced the opening new oil testing facility in Johannesburg.
