Cisco and its partners promote information and communications technologies to the general public, to technologists and to the press, and offer strategic insights into the application of these technologies.

What is particularly interesting? This year, in Las Vegas, at Cisco Live, Cisco chairman and chief executive officer John Chambers presented a keynote. There was also a keynote by Dave Evans, Cisco’s chief futurist and structured discussions on collaboration, data centre virtualisation, and borderless networks. There was a demonstration of the Cius, a tablet device for business.

A highlight of the annual event is a customer field trip to a data centre, which serves to showcase Global Access Cash Holdings (GCA), a Las Vegas-based gaming and hospitality company, and GCA’s association with channel partner Nexus IS and hosted provider the Switch Communications SuperNAP data centre. The story told on this trip is that of how GCA, which provides ATM kiosks in gaming institutions worldwide, has revamped its entire information technology infrastructure and created a new data centre strategy. SuperNAP-7, the data centre itself, is the world’s highest density, ultra-scale data centre with 407,000 square feet of space. There are plans to expand the centre to over two million square feet, to make SuperNAP-7 the world’s largest data centre campus.

Exhibitors of particular note included Ipswitch, APC Schneider Electric, Eaton, Emerson, Fluke, Ingersoll Rand, Lexmark, Samsung and Xerox. Next year Cisco live is in San Diego.
